Some activities we used in Early Years linked to the story 'The Papaya that Spoke' using talk for writing. Children used actions to retell the story, made story maps then innvoated the story to create a new story 'the strawberry that spoke.'

Clues and letter for children to go on a Gingerbread man hunt around school. Includes, cloakroom, staffroom, office, dinner hall, gym, music room, story chair, outside and back to Nursery. Also included is labels for the envelopes as each time we found a clue we counted and matched the correct number to the buttons on the envelope.

Ideas for literacy and numeracy which I used with Reception children. It was an excellent book which especially engaged the boys. The planning ideas are in word format but the resources are all created using active inspire so you will need this to open them. Hope you enjoy.

Also we wrote a new story we're going on a giant hunt and retold this story in the outdoor area and using story trays. maths incudes counting beans, adding beans, patten beanstalks, measuring beanstalks, ordering leaves on a beanstalk. literacy includes retelling both stories, describing the giant and making story maps.
